how the heck did i never hear about this thing before?

its a canadian memorial in france designed by Walter S. Allward/ they even planted canadian trees and stuff in the surrounding forest. next trip to france, i'm going to this thing for sure. it should be on our money or something!
more pictures and info at the post i stole all these from: http://www.canadiandesignresource.ca/officialgallery/symbols/the-canadian-national-vimy-memorial/
also, Moranne and me went to see the pixies on friday. i'd never seen them live before and they were so so good. they played doolittle all the way through, plus a couple other things. i think it was one of the best sounding shows i've ever been to. last night on the documentary channel they were playing this thing about them where they interview all these other bands about the influence. it's really good! its all on youtube, it turns out. here's part 1.

Roll The Dice by Charles Bukowski
if you’re going to try, go all the way. otherwise, don’t even start.
if you’re going to try, go all the way. this could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives, jobs and maybe your mind.
go all the way. it could mean not eating for 3 or 4 days. it could mean freezing on a park bench. it could mean jail, it could mean derision, mockery, isolation. isolation is the gift, all the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. and you’ll do it despite rejection and the worst odds and it will be better than anything else you can imagine.
if you’re going to try, go all the way. there is no other feeling like that. you will be alone with the gods and the nights will flame with fire.
do it, do it, do it. do it.
all the way all the way. you will ride life straight to perfect laughter, it’s the only good fight there is. |

So a while back the Black Lips (seen here with GZA) were in the middle of what sounded like the sketchiest tour ever in India. They ended up having to steal their passports back from the authorities and flee the country. They took refuge in Berlin, and met up with King Khan and BBQ Show - those two outfits i'm not too familiar with but somebody in them sounds like Sam Cooke. So they recorded this song with those guys, under the name 'The Almighty Defenders', and I wish i ran a radio station cause i would play it for the people on their friday drive home. I guess i'll just have to play it by myself.
weekend song! http://www.poptartssucktoasted.com/LP8.10/Friday/tracks/Cone%20Of%20Light.mp3
edit: this song comes after that one on random in my itunes. it follows nicely...somehow. http://burstofbeaden.com/walkrightin.mp3 |

the new york public library has this big archives of scanned prints online. you can look at them, and if you like one, you can order a print of it! they'll even frame it for you if you have a bunch of money.
